They formed in 1991 when both artists were called
to the stage to improvise a Gospel Spiritual. From that day on, Luisa
Cottifogli and Enrico Guerzoni have performed on the music scene all over Italy and also abroad. Together
with the Petronius trio, with Aurelio Zarrelli on the piano, they won the International Competition of the City of
Ispra in 1992, and the International Competition at the Philharmonic Academy of
Rome in 1994. They have also
performed as a quartet with the percussionist Roberto Rossi. Luisa is currently the singer for the Italian band Quinto Rigo and
is also working on various projects, including Ai Nen and Rum . Enrico
is the founder of Ark Quartet , and the Kuasar String Kuartet as well as
the Ten Strings duo (cello- guitar).Their repertoire has a trail in space and time, from
John Dowlands 16thC England to their own original compositions, along the way
passing through Italy, of course, the Arab world and the Sephardic Jews, touching
on Fado and Brazilian music, reviving the Spiritual/Blues tradition and the
unforgettable Jazz standards of great American musicians of years gone by.

LUISA COTTIFOGLI
For years now, she has
experimented with different vocal techniques, from classical, ancient music and
contemporary; Jazz and ethnic. She also enjoys breaking down the barriers with
with the visual arts and in theatre.She graduated in singing from the "G.B.Martini" Music College
and in drama from the Academy of Dramatic Arts in Bologna. She has also earned herself a diploma in
Choral singing from the Teatro Comunale dell'Opera in Bologna. She has studied under
the guidance of Paride Venturi, from Bologna, Gabriella Ravazzi, from Genova,
Ustad Aslam Khan and Danashree Pandit Rai, from Bombay.She has worked as a soprano in the choir and orchestra of the Teatro
Comunale dell'Opera in Bologna. As an actress she has
worked in the theatre Teatro delle Moline (shows include: "Recapito Prossimo",
"Santit") and for the director, Luigi Gozzi.She has worked as a programmer/presenter for the radio programme
"Se son rose" for RAI-Radio 2.She has appeared on numerous TV programmes on TVE (Spanish National T.V.),
ORF (Austrian National radio), Radio-RAI ("La musica nella stanza",
"Il frutto senza nome" radio film by Bonifacio-Isgr).With the San Petronius Trio (Aurelio Zarrelli, Enrico Guerzoni) she
won the International Competition of Ispra in 1992 and the June Junior
Competition at the Philharmonic Academy in Rome in 1994. As leader and arranger
of the female voice sextet, Vocinbl, she has worked with:Glauco Mauri ( in
The Tempest" by Shakespeare, music by Arturo Annechino ), Ivano Fossati in "Macram" (Columbia-Sony, with Trilok Gurtu,
Tony Levin, Riccardo Tesi, Mario Arcari), Lucio Dalla on Milingos first CD (Pressing-BMG Ricordi) and in the T.V.
programme "Taxi" on RAI3, Sentieri
Selvaggi from Milano, She has participated in the Rossini
Opera Festival '98 ( music by Azio Corghi) and in the Salone della Musica in
Turin '97 ( music by Nicola
Campogrande).As a solo artist she has sung for: Giovanna Marini in "Il dono della veggenza" in Bologna and
Paris;David Riondino in his recital inspired by "Cantico dei
Cantici";Andrea Centazzo perfomring some of his pieces for voice and
orchestra;Roberto
Cacciapaglia performing in concert;Andrea Parodi (ex
singer of Tazenda) in his project "Ninneh" and in concert with
Marlevar;Marlevar, with
whom she released the CD, of the same name, with Forrest Hills Rec. and
participated in Italia al tour "The Wide World Over 02" by the Chieftains, legendary Irish group;Metissage, with whom she performed alongside Teresa De Sio, Rita
Marcotulli and Ambrogio
Sparagna and has released
the CD for Il Manifesto;Flavio Premoli, for whom she released the CD "Variazioni" (Virgin, with Phil Manzanera and Demo
Morselli); Giovanni Amighetti in
the CD-compilation "And if the world" (ARV-Suoni dell'altro mondo
'02, with music by Ayub Ogada, Tiziana Ghiglioni, Adel Salameh, Terem Quartet,
Guo Yue and Joji Hirota) and on a CD soon to be released playing with the Chinese flautist,
Guo Hue and the Norwegian percussionist Helge Norbakken.For years she sang in other groups with the jazz guitarist Tomaso
Lama.She has performed with musicians such
as: Massimo Manzi, Ettore Fioravanti, Roberto Bartoli, Vladimir Denissenkov,
Guo Hue.In the world of ancient music, she
has collaborated with Giorgio
Magnanensi, Candace Smith, Stefano Rocco, Fabio Tricomi, Pedro
Memelsdorf, Octandre-Musica Attuale from Bologna, AGON in Milano and Caronte from
Brescia. In 1999 the ORF (Austrian
National Radio) commissioned a show on Italy. This is how the project "Ai
Nen" (I come from the North but I am from the South) originally came
about, which has toured in: Austria (Auditorium of the National Radio ORF in Vienna, Linz
Festival 2000, Castello di Oberdrauburg 01, Accordeon Festival 02 in Vienna ), Switzerland (La canzone donna 02 in Locarno), India (Jazz Yatra Festival 2000 in Bombay, Delhi, Pune), The United States (Seattle 02 at the EMP Sky Church), Italy (Cassero Jazz 2000, Pavaglione Estate 01, Vocalia 02,
Garda Jazz 03, From Bach to Bartok 03). In the project "Ai Nen" she has played alongside
musicians such as Gabriele Bombardini, Matteo Scaioli, Cico Cicognani, Simone Zanchini, Enrico Guerzoni, Carlo Cantini, Fabio
Tricomi, and Benny Penazzi.What is more, she has also performed some songs from this project
with Andrea Parodi (ex singer of Tazenda), Francesco Sotgiu, Gavino Murgia,
Salvatore Maiore, Fausto Beccalossi, and Arnaldo Vacca. In 2000 she
auto-produced the CD "Ai Nen".In 2001 she took part in the show "Cyrano" by the theatre
company Teatro del Drago in
Ravenna, and went on tour in Italy and Switzerland.She was commissioned by the Europe Jazz Network in Ravenna to work on various original projects for the show
"Musica in gioco", alongside Marco Biscarini, Gabriele Bombardini,
and Carlo Cialdo Capelli. Another commission is
that of the Ravenna Festival '02: with the original project, "Cohors" Luisa has worked
with the visual artist Gianluca Beccari, the Percussion Voyagers, and Gabriele Bombardini. In 2003 she participated in the Jazz Joint Ventures Festival of Graz with
an original project, alongside Glauco Venier, Achim Tang, Herbert Reisinger, Joao De Bruco and Roderick Van der Straaten. For the Festival
Progetto Jazz'03 she performed, for the first time, her original composition
for voice and video-installation "Velocit di fuga" at the Ponchielli
Theatro in Cremona, alongside the video-maker Gian Luca Beccari.In the same year, she was commissioned by the Public Library of Imola to work on a new project,
"Voci al di l del mare" (with Fabio Tricomi and videos by Andrea
Bernabini).In December she will make her debut in the contemporary opera
"La famosa invasione degli orsi in Sicilia" by Marco Biscarini, directed by Aldo Sisillo.
ENRICO
GUERZONI
Musician, cellist, composer, arranger.He
graduated in studies on the cello from the Conservatorio di Bologna in 1986. He has been First Cellist in several Italian orchestras, and
had also collaborated with numerous instrumental groups such as the
"Solisti Veneti", with whom he has played in some of the most
prestigious reviews of music in the world. He has also been on tourne in
Japan, China, Korea, India, Germany, Spain, Argentina and obviously Italy, in
prestigious places including Teatro Olimpico of Vicenza, Teatro Bellini of
Catania, Accademia di Santa Cecilia in Rome. Moreover, he has played with the
"Virtuosi Italiani", Archi Italiani, International Chamber
Ensemble, the Orchestra della R.A.I in Rome, Orchestra da Camera di Bologna,
Filarmonici di Bologna and Solisti di Bologna, Orchestra Regionale of
Marche, and the orchestra Giovanile Toscanini.He
won the international competition for the position of cellist with the
Symphonic Lyric Agency "Teatro Comunale di Bologna" and he
collaborated with them from 1988 to 2001. With this orchestra, he went on
tourne in Japan and Germany and has made recordings for the Decca. He has
played under the guidance of conductors such as R. Muti, G. Sinopoli, C.
Thieleman, V. Delman, R. Chailly, Z. Pezsko, L. Berio, G. Bertini, and D. Oren.He
dedicates himself to his freelance work. He is the founder of the eclectic
quartet of acoustic and electrical strings "Ark", with whom he has
done numerous concerts and performed for the Royal Family in London, along with
the tenor Jos Cura, with whom he has performed in concerts in Germany and
Japan. From
2000 to 2004 he collaborated with the singer Antonella Ruggiero, building an
ethnic and classical repertoire. They made a record together for Sony, a DVD
for the EGEA and they have done more than 160 concerts all around Italy and in
foreign countries, in prestigious theatres such as the "Regio" of
Turin, Carlo Felice in Genova, Comunale in Modena and for musical agencies
such as the Santa Cecilia (Terme di Caracalla) and Teatro Massimo in Palermo,
for the Pope in the Vatican and Toronto and a tourne in Morocco. Whats more,
two years in a row, they performed at the review I suoni delle Dolomiti.One
of their concerts was integrally broadcast on Channel 4 of national Italian
television. In
February 2004 he went on tourne with A.S.Q.in Estonia and performed famous
concert halls, such as the Puccini theatre in Merano and the jazz festivals of
Vignola, as well as recordings with the Indian percussionist Trilok Gurtu. He
took part in the Ensemble "Tourte" of Bologna, with whom he has
recorded the unpublished quintets for flute by Boccherini and the string
quartet for the record label "Dynamic".His
repertoire includes the six Bach cello suites, which he has performed in public
at the Teatro Consorziale di Budrio (Bo) and at the Medieval museum of Bologna. He
has collaborated with Salvatore Sciarrino in various composition courses in
"Citt di Castello", and for years he played in the final concerts
for the course in composition for the "Accademia Chigiana in Siena.In
1992, his jazz-blues group "Petronius Quartet" won the international
prize "Citt di Ispra", and, in 1994, the competition Giugno per i
giovani at the Accademia Filarmonica Romana.He
has held jazz concerts with artists such as T. Lama, R. Gatto, D. Rea, P.
Fresu, S. Zanchini, D. Lynx, L. Cottifogli (who recorded a CD with him, in a duo and in a sextet) F. Del Gaudio, S. Battaglia, G. Mirabassi, E. Fioravanti, M.
Negri, R. Rossi, N. Machado, and M. Minardi.Enrico
Guerzoni was invited to Paris to play with Pierre Blanchards string jazz group
and at the "Festival du Cinma" for the centenarian of the Lumire
brothers, performing at the Theatre of the Muse du Louvre . This was organized
by the Cinmathque Francaise,. He
has a great passion for the baroque period in particular and done extensive
study on baroque technique. He has worked as director and solo artist in
various groups (Harmonico Concento, Ensemble Anciuti). He
has received lessons in orchestra conduction with the great Lu Jia.He
has taken part in the most important recordings of Andrea Bocelli.He
has collaborated with some of the most important composers of Italian popular
music, such as Eugenio Finardi, Lucio Dalla, Gianni Morandi, Renato Zero,
Adriano Celentano, Gino Paoli, Zucchero, E. Ramazzotti, V. Capossela, Tullio de
Piscopo, S. Bersani, and D. Silvestri, performing numerous concerts with them
and working on various recordings, participating in the arrangements of some of
their records.He
has arranged and recorded the string section on the records of the singer Mirco
Menna, of the group Parto Nuvole Pesanti and of the Chilean singer Marcelo Araya.As
a composer, he has produced music above all for string quartet, but he has also
tried his hand at many other styles, includingPOP, jazz, and ethnic music, with
excellent results.He
has recorded and made concerts with the avanguarde group of Roberto Cacciapaglia.Moreover,
Enrico Guerzoni, as a cellist, has taken part in several programmes on R.A.I.
TV.He
has taught the cello at the Scuola di Musica Baroncini in Imola
(Bo) and at a musical high school in Cento.Current
projects and collaborations:In
2004 he founded the Kuasar String Kuartet an innovative musical project for
string quartet. The K.S.K. collaborates with the Italian jazz project, the
project "Plancton", the singer Kelly Joyce and other Italian and
foreign artists.He
plays in the "Ten Strings" duo with the guitarist Stefano Mirandola,
climbing the height of original musical composition and playing the music of E.
Gismonti, P. De Lucia, C. Corea among others. They have recently completed
their first album: "Ten Strings".He
also collaborates with Eugenio Finardis group in the show Il Silenzio e lo
Spirito, and together they have recorded a CD and a DVD for the EDEL, and have
performed in various concerts all over Italy.He
collaborates with the Mancuso brothers and Giancarlo Parisi in the project
Voci e strumenti da una Sicilia di Tradizione e di Reinvenzione, working on
traditional Sicilian music.He
also works with Mirco Menna and Stefano Mirandola in the "Rinato Carosello
di musica napoleatana", performing Neapolitan music fromn the Renaissance
to the present day.In
August 2005 he performed in a concert with Michael Nymann at the Kursall of
Merano.
